The ambitions of big companies seem to be getting more and more pronounced every day, and America’s leading entrepreneurs want to capture even more attention than they already do. This is happening with Jeff Bezos, for example. The owner of Amazon has started a journey into the world of rockets and he has done it with the right foot without any doubts. With his new project called Blue Origin, a new space company, Bezos intends to join in the development and research of spacecraft to launch into space and acquire scientific knowledge in an accelerated manner. With Blue Origin’s New Glenn spacecraft, a successful breakthrough has been achieved.
Blue Origin’s maiden voyage
Jeff Bezos’ company and its first rocket had one goal in mind: successful orbiting. Apparently, according to what happened in the first minutes of the launch, everything went as expected and the main objective was more than achieved. Moreover, as a milestone surpassing what SpaceX or other companies have done, Blue Origin became the first company to achieve orbit in its first launch with a new rocket. Everything changed as the minutes passed and expectations began to drop, although this was secondary after a successful first stage with a record performance that few imagined. The New Glenn spacecraft began to lose power and one of its thrusters for the descent, which caused the system to stop due to errors when entering the atmosphere at the moment of starting its return landing.
Jeff Bezos’ own managers and partners in this Blue Origin project knew how difficult it would be to attempt to land the New Glenn rocket on a ship’s platform in the Atlantic Ocean, so the explosion and failure to return was to be expected. However, they also see a positive side to it and believe that they have gained knowledge of how to act in case of launching another one next spring. Another curious fact is that NASA did not participate or collaborate in the launch, as had been established at the beginning. All because of a delay in the launch date and the subsequent withdrawal of the payload that the rocket was going to have, the EscaPADE system, used for the exploration of Mars.
Competition between Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos?
Many have already begun to position Jeff Bezos with Blue Origin and Elon Musk with his SpaceX as antagonists in the midst of a battle in space rocket development. Despite this, which sounds mediatic, the way of researching and advancing of both companies are totally different. Experts indicate that Blue Origin has taken its time in the process and left the smallest details to chance prior to the first launch, contrary to what SpaceX has shown so far with its multiple tests, many of which have been failures. What is certain is that the competition is real, as both companies want space dominance and challenge each other to establish themselves as the leader in the aerospace industry.
