A stability control issue has led to the recall of 30,000 RAM trucks. The recently detected problem significantly increases the risk of traffic accidents. Specifically, the defective part in RAM 1500 models is related to a wheel-mounted speed sensor. If this device malfunctions, it disables the electronic stability control (ESC), seriously compromising the safety of the vehicle’s occupants.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issues official notice
The well-known automotive brand RAM, specialized in manufacturing trucks and vans, estimates that a total of 33,777 units may be affected by this safety issue. Specifically, you should check if your vehicle was manufactured between October 13, 2023, and August 11, 2024. However, the company states that only 1% of these models are likely to be impacted.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued the notice to the public. In an official statement, the government agency said:
“Some 2025 MY Ram 1500 vehicles may have been built with damaged front-wheel bearing encoder rings causing a loss of wheel speed signal (WSS) which may disable Electronic Stability Control (ESC).”
Let us remember that the NHTSA is an agency under the Government of the United States, within the Department of Transportation. Founded in 1970, its motto is “Save lives, prevent injuries, and reduce vehicle crashes.” Since its creation, it has focused its mission on manufacturing safer cars for occupants. To achieve this, it conducts passive safety tests on new vehicles, assigning scores that indicate higher or lower protection based on the results of the safety tests.
RAM to notify dealerships and inform owners of affected vehicles
The manufacturer has begun alerting dealerships that sold the affected batch of vehicles. Consequently, if you recently purchased a RAM 1500 truck, you may soon receive a notification about this issue, if you haven’t already. RAM dealerships will inspect your vehicle and replace the defective bearing free of charge if damage is found.
