The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recalled a range of products, in this case tacos, due to a harmful bacteria. The affected products are meal kits intended for enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, stir-fries, and salads, manufactured by Reser’s Fine Foods. The recall was triggered because the chicken used in these products came from the supplier BrucePac and was contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause food poisoning.

Listeria is a particularly dangerous bacteria because it can survive in refrigerators and freezers. Additionally, infected foods may go unnoticed because they can look, smell, or taste normal. When a person is infected, the symptoms of Listeria appear days or weeks after exposure, presenting symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
