A strong and durable engine is the key to a car’s long service life. Some models and manufacturers have better engines than others, in terms of technology, durability and strength. So it’s only natural that mechanics have seen this and can offer first-hand advice on which brands are best when choosing a car. Today, we will make a list of cars with the best engines.
Workers at Accurate Automotive auto shop in Colorado shared their opinions on the car brands with the most powerful engines. They did it through a video of TikTok, where they highlighted the figure of the Toyota company, who would have very good parts.
However, others attributed the best powertrains not so much to a brand, but to a manufacturer in general. “It has to be the old LS engines,” they asserted, referring to General Motors’ LS-based small-block engines. These are powerplants that were first introduced in 1997. Another mechanic chose to make a list of brands with the best engines. In this list he named Chevy and Ford. However, he highlighted that Chevrolet is GM’s most successful brand.
What are the car brands most chosen by buyers?
According to Consumer Reports and JD Power, BMW, Subaru and Lexus are among the top auto brands for buyers in 2024. The Toyota corporation took great relevance in the market and won nine awards from JD Power for several of its models. Among them we can find the Toyota Corolla, Toyota Camry, Toyota 4Runner and Lexus RX.
General Motors also won a large number of awards for some of its most recognized models. Among them are the Chevrolet Equinox, Chevrolet Travers and Chevrolet Tahoe. All these models have also become one of the most common purchase options for U.S. citizens.
Taking into account the information provided by the mechanics about the cars and the quality of their engines, it is necessary to clarify that this detail is very important when looking for a vehicle. You have to consider how long you want to keep the car and how much you will be willing to pay for engine repairs as time goes by.
Toyota’s difficult time
Despite the good reviews, there is also a flip side. This year, Toyota faced one of the most costly and complex recalls in its history. It is a difficult decision it took after registering a serious defect in the twin-turbo V-6 engines of the Tundra and Lexus LX pickup trucks. Faced with this situation, the manufacturer is recalling more than 100,000 vehicles. This effect can cause the engine to stall suddenly while running. This significantly increases the risk of accidents. According to the report that the company submitted to the NHTSA, 102,092 vehicles have been recalled: 98,600 correspond to the Tundra model, while more than 3,500 are Lexus LX SUVs.
Toyota’s solution to this problem was to replace the engines of the affected cars. Thus, the engines of more than 100,000 vehicles would have to be replaced. So far, the solution only applies to the hybrid versions of the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 engines. The electric version of this model will not be included in the overhaul, because its engines can still supply power despite this particular.
This whole strategy represents a great expense for Toyota. In addition to the price of the new engines, the company will also have to cover the labor costs to remove the defective engines and install the replacement ones.
