Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner on the U.S. calendar, as is the Social Security payment. The United States Social Security Administration (SSA) issues checks every month, but the payment date isn’t always the same. Thus, those who are beneficiaries due to retirement, disability, and survivor benefits (RSDI) are scheduled to receive payment on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of the month if they applied after May 1, 1997. However, those receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for people with disabilities and low-income or no-income seniors—get paid on the first day of each month.
Payment schedule for the month of November
It’s important to know that if the 1st falls on a weekend, like September 1 (Sunday), the payment will be issued earlier, on the previous Friday. This ensures that beneficiaries receive their payments in advance, allowing them to plan ahead. Here’s the Social Security payment schedule for November 2024:
- SSA beneficiaries who started receiving benefits before May 1997: November 1.
- If your birthday is between the 1st and the 10th of the month: payment is received on November 13 (second Wednesday of the month).
- If your birthday is between the 11th and the 20th of the month: payment is made on November 20, which is the third Wednesday of the month.
- If your birthday is between the 21st and the 31st of the month: payment is issued on November 27, the fourth Wednesday of the month.
In some cases, there will be people receiving two Social Security payments this November. This includes those receiving SSI, who will get an additional check due to the payment schedule alignment. Because the SSA sends funds on the first of each month, when this falls on a weekend, payment is sent in advance. Therefore, those set to receive the December SSI payment will receive it on November 29.
What to do if you don’t receive your Social Security payment
If beneficiaries don’t receive their electronic payment on the specified date, they should contact their bank, according to the Social Security Administration (SSA). The reason might be a delay on the part of the financial institution.
For a late, missing, or stolen payment, it should be reported by calling the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) or by visiting a local Social Security office. In such cases, the SSA will review and issue the payment if applicable.
